What You Might Be Experiencing:
– A sudden blur, shadow, or curtain in your field of vision
– Flashes of light or a sudden increase in floaters
– Total or partial vision loss in one eye
– Central or peripheral vision distortion
These symptoms can stem from:
– Retinal detachment
– Optic nerve damage
– Macular issues
– Stroke-related vision problems
– Sudden glaucoma
– Corneal conditions
Diagnostic Testing: What We Use to Find the Cause
We tailor your exam based on your symptoms and the part of the eye affected. These tools help us pinpoint the cause quickly and accurately.
Slit Lamp Microscopy
25x magnification allows detailed evaluation of the cornea, iris, and lens—helping to detect infections, injury, or inflammation.
Retinal Imaging (Optos Ultra-Widefield)
Captures up to 82% of the retina in one image. Ideal for detecting retinal tears, detachment, bleeding, or tumors.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Creates 3D scans of the cornea, macula and optic nerve. Critical for identifying fluid, swelling, or early degeneration that could cause central vision loss.
Visual Field Testing
Used when vision loss is patchy or peripheral. Helps detect glaucoma, optic neuropathies, and strokes.
Why Act Fast?
Some conditions—like retinal detachment—require immediate surgery. Delays can mean permanent vision loss.
Even if it turns out to be something minor, it’s far better to rule out the worst first.
We make every effort to see you the same day. If we are unavailable, we will direct you to emergency ophthalmology services (e.g., Rockyview Hospital).
